A psychic reading has always been controversial and a focus of skeptical inquiry, though many are still interested in them.

List of Psychic Methods

In psychic reading, psychics or mediums typically may have one or more psychic methods use while doing psychic readings.

Here are some of the more common psychic methods that top the list:

  • Trance Mediums. This method uses the medium's body where a spirit is allowed to come into their body to communicate to loved ones or the masses. In this method, the Medium does not allow the spirit to take control of their body in any way other than using the voice for communication.
  • Aura reading.This method involves the observation and interpretation of auras, which is a field of subtle, luminous radiation supposedly surrounding a person.
  • Cartomancy or Playing Card Reading. This method is a form of fortune-telling or divination that uses a deck of cards.
  • Channeling Mediums. This method is similar to trance medium but is usually operating in a sleep-like state in a prone position.
  • Telepathy.This method does not make use of the body's five senses but instead makes use of the shear willpower of the mind to send a message or pick up one's emotions, ideas and thoughts.
  • Cleromancy. This divination method usually involves casting small objects or casting of lots, or casting bones or stones and sortition and reading them by their position, orientation, and mutual proximity.
  • Clairvoyance. This method is another form of Mediumship which means sight. It is the ability to see spirits and their surroundings on the other side. It is the most ideal method in communicating with the dead and being of assistance in helping them crossover in their passing. In clairvoyance, the medium is able to see pictures and situations and then is transferred to the person wanting answers in psychic readings.

  • Numerology. This method makes use of a person's date of birth, letters in their names or other numerical values in a person's life in determining the numbers' meanings and their influence on the person's life.
  • Palmistry or Palm reading. This method involves characterization and foretelling of one's future through the study of the lines, shapes, wrinkles and curves on the palm. Palmistry does not require psychic ability.
  • Psychometry. In this method, the psychic will obtain details about another through physical contact with their possessions. The psychic will often ask the subject for their favorite and most meaningful objects, such as wedding rings, glasses, car keys, etc., for the reading. It is believed that objects which have been in close proximity to the subject for extended periods of time hold some of that person's energy; energy which can be detected. This method has been used to try and locate missing persons.
  • Rune reading. This method uses runes, which are an ancient alphabet used for divining the future. In this method, the psychic cast the runes on a mat to discern future events or path a problem or issue will take.
  • Tarot reading. This method uses tarot cards in order to get a reading.
